FAQ

How long does it last?  Results vary by person based on how the body metabolizes the injections, but Juvederm typically lasts for a period of 9 months to one year.

Are there any adverse effects?

The most commonly reported side effect is temporary injection-site swelling, tenderness, or redness. Firmness , lumps, bumps and discoloration may occur. Side effects usually are mild in nature and self resolve in 14 days or less without any intervention

Are there risks? As with any minimally invasive procedure, there can pose a risk for infection, allergic reaction or undesirable results such as migrating or lumping over time. Minor swelling is common. While these may be very low risk, its still important to know this is subject to bacterial infections.

Extremely rare but may occur are vascular occlusions. This is when the dermal filler enters into an artery of the face causing an occlusion, blocking blood flow. This must be immediately addressed and reversed using hyaluronidase. This will break up the occlusion and filler may be redone at a later date

How long is the treatment? Dermal filler are a relatively quick, and the actual injections generally take around 30 minutes.  You will need to allow for additional time before the injections are administered to discuss your medical history, examine your wrinkles and folds to determine their depth so that the treatment meets your individual needs as well as discuss treatment options.  Anesthesia is not required, but we may apply a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the area beforehand.

How long until I can go into the sun?  Tanning is never recommended, but you should be able to tolerate normal sun exposure after the first day of treatment with dermal fillers .  It is important to wear sunscreen.

How long until I can wear makeup?

Normal makeup routines are fine, but you should avoid massaging or unnecessarily touching the treated area for a few days.  Also refrain from applying any products that contain alcohol to your face.
